Signature Works

“A Fantastic London: City of the Mind and Small Island” explores how each novel is connected through the city of London. Indeed this “London” is more than just a place, it is a living, breathing, entity of its own. It reaches us through abstract and philosophical means to redefine its identity over and over again.

As a poem isn’t necessarily meant to have a singular meaning, I leave the ultimate interpretation up to you. However, I will say my decision to play around with form was very fun! Also, this poem was originally created as one of several in a different portfolio. Specifically, during my time at St. Norbert College, in a Poetry Workshop class. It has since become one of my favorite pieces ever written.

Sometimes the best way to describe something is with words that make the least amount of sense (or sometimes, they do anyway). A creation made during my time at St. Norbert College, though not specifically for a class.

Sometimes we should go beyond the legend and see what stories lurk just beneath the surface. Is the siren all that formidable? Can a sailor be just as terrible? These are questions I’ve thought about for many years; this is the most revised version I have since its initial creation in 2018.
